This week, we will meet in the family life center for Sunday
School for a presentation from Bee Moorhead, Executive Director of Texas
Impact. She will present an overview of the major issues facing the Texas
Legislature, especially those that affect people and areas of concern for people
of faith: the young, the elderly, the disabled, the poor, and the environment.
Fall Family Festival is this Sunday immediately following the 11
o'clock service.
I know
that on our last few MLF runs, we have been short of hard boiled eggs.
Dick Young has asked for your help on this matter. "You can
participate in FUMC’s Good Egg Ministry by agreeing to boil at least one dozen
eggs once each month and then delivering those precious eggs to our MLF
kitchen. How easy is that? To volunteer or request additional
information, please contact Dick Young at fumcgoodeggs@gmail.com." You
can always drop off eggs in kitchen off of Wesley Hall.
Parents
night out is on November 5th from 5:30-9:00. Contact Sam at childcarefumc@yahoo.com to reserve a
spot for you kid.
Welcome
Samuel Cutrone and Tessa Delgago! ...and Happy Birthday Mary!

1. Jill will be teaching this Sunday - “Who are We?” - discussing what it means to be a Methodist.
2. Manna bags are on sale for $5 a piece.
3. There is an admin board meeting following church this Sunday.
4. A big thanks to Leslie, Kristen, Kate, and Melanie for cleaning up our classroom/the family room. They moved out every single cushionless swing, both 1970's (previously stolen from McDonalds) high chairs, the bassinet (that was also broken), two completely unused cribs and one table. The windows have been washed, the toys have been cleaned out and organized, the rocking chairs are all lined up and it really looks great. When you walk in to notice the beautiful stained glass windows instead of the ceiling particles resting on the tray of the highchair. Thanks!
5. "Hope for the Thinking Christian" with Dr. Stephen Reese is coming up on September 26th at 5pm. There is a $5 fee and you need to register with laurie barr at laurie@fumcaustin.org.
6. This Week's Sermon - Jesus and the five letter word. Here is a note from Pastor John: We all know the shock value of certain four-letter words. However, many Americans appear to be more reluctant to talk about a certain five-letter word with their friends than they are to discuss the intimate details of their personal lives. Yet, Jesus talked more about this five-letter word than about any other topic. Come and find out what it is. Why not invite your friends and neighbors to hear this provocative sermon series based on some of Jesus’ parables recorded in the gospel of Luke? As many families settle into the beginning of another school year, this is a natural time for them to try, or to get back into, church. You will be surprised at how receptive they may be to the invitation you give them to come with you to worship or your Sunday school class.
Prayers of thanksgiving for Truman’s discharge from the hospital and continued healing at home. |

First, I would like to congratulate myself on being the new class President. I deserve it. Secondly, I wanted to remind everyone of the new class officers.
President - Darcy
Vice President - Bert
Treasurer - Kevin R.
Curriculum - Leslie, Fancy, TJ and Suzanne
Social - Kris, Jamie (dinner club), Sarah, Kate
Communications - Mary (class list), Kristen and David (website)
Missions - Ryan Brown, Kristen and Kyle
and our new "Care Team" position to be filled by Kate
Thanks to everyone for volunteering their time!
As a reminder, if you an an officer and plan an event for the class or have an announcement, please update the website. If you are just going to view the website, you do not need to login in. If you are editing/adding info, you will need your user name and password. If you do not know your user name or password, please contact David (dlcolby@gmail.com). The 'sign in' is at the very bottom of the website in a small font.
Other notes from class: The curriculum team has already done a great job of planning most of the classes for the next few months. They are also interested in hearing from you on future topics. Do you have an idea for a future lesson? want to teach? - contact Leslie, Fancy, TJ or Suzanne
The missions committee is open to adopting a new Honeymooners mission in addition to the current MLF and Christmas missions. It was agreed that this last year was an easy/light year (thanks mostly to the missions team) and that we could potentially add another mission to our class. Please let the missions team know if you have any ideas.
We had two different couples visit the class last week and one couple was so impressed with my leadership that they decided to join on the spot. Please try to introduce yourself to Jeff and Cori Ervin - they seem like a really fun couple and it is great to have new faces in the group.
Speaking of new Honeymooners...Leslie and I talked about trying to set newbies up with old timers for a small group type event (one newbie couple and 2 or 3 old timer couples). Since we are no longer having small group, it is going to be difficult to get to know the new people on a personal level. If you are interested in being one of the couples that meets up with a new couple, please let me know.
Continued prayers for Truman, Michele and the boys. |

1. Our SS lesson this week will be on favorite prayers. I will be leading the lesson. We ask that everyone bring in their favorite bible verse, prayers that you pray with your child or spouse or on your own, a family tradition involving prayer, or daily devotional to share. We all know that prayer is important and sometimes we need a reminder to make prayer part of our daily lives and to share it with our children. We will be starting our lesson just a little late this week- read below. 2. This is "Movin' On, Movin' Up" Sunday. Parents and children will meet in Wesley Hall at 9:45am to fill out some paperwork and Paula will give a little presentation. At 10am, we will then escort our kids to their (potentially) new SS class. We'll start our SS lesson after that. 3. The is also Blessing of the Backpacks Sunday. All children (school age and preschool) are encouraged to bring their backpack to church and at the 11am service there will be a little blessing. 4. The kindergartners will receive a special gift and story time right before the rest of the children join them for their backpack blessings.
Thanks, Leslie

1. Since quite a few of the ladies will be at the women's retreat this weekend, Fancy will be doing a Sunday Funday lesson. For those of you in town, I know she'd love to see you at Sunday school. 2. Reminder that there are no chapel services for the month of June, only 9am and 11am Sanctuary services. 3. There will be a wonderful benefit concert on Sunday at 3pm to raise money for the church organ and sound system. 4. There is a VBS workday on Monday, June 28th from 9am to noon at Tarrytown UMC. Childcare is provided at our church by emailing childcarefumc@yahoo.com. Email Sarah C. to let her know you are coming. Just FYI- I will be there and my 3 kiddos will be in childcare. 5. Remember to register your child for VBS, if you have not done so already. The price has now gone up to $30 per child. You can register through the church website. Early registration really helps the VBS leaders plan and organize VBS much better. 6. If you can help with VBS in any way, please email Sarah C and she will be happy to plug you in. 7. There is a handbell concert in the Sanctuary on Monday, June 28th at 7pm.
